Dr. Joyce Pickering, SLP/CCC, CALT, QI, LDT, AMS-EC,
HUM.D., Executive Director Emerita
As the creator of the Sequential English
Education (SEE) program, Dr. Joyce
Pickering has promoted several special
projects utilizing the SEE method. These
projects have brought the skill of reading
to thousands of children worldwide. She
also established the Montessori Applied to
Children at Risk (MACAR) program, which provides
unique guidance to many at-risk children. Dr. Pickering
is a widely sought-after keynote speaker who gives many
presentations each year. As the founder of Outreach,
Dr. Pickering is an unwavering advocate for students
who learn differently. She is the co-author of “Montessori
Strategies for Children with Learning Differences:
The MACAR Model” with Sylvia O. Richardson.
Suzanne Crawford, M.Ed., LDT, CALT-QI, Educational
Diagnostician and Outreach Instructor
Consistent with Shelton’s mission of
making a difference in the lives of
students who learn differently, Suzanne
Crawford is responsible for training and
supporting adult learners in MTA, Take
Flight and all curricula developed by the
Center for Dyslexia at Scottish Rite for
Children.
Danyle Duke, CALT-ICALP, LDT, SEE Program Training
Coordinator, Instructor of Teaching Level
Danyle Duke trains teachers in the SEE
Program, expertly guiding them on the
pathway to certification with IMSLEC,
ALTA and/or IDA. As SEE Program
Training Coordinator, she manages
records for SEE Teaching, Therapy and
Instructor Levels to ensure trainees meet
certification requirements. Danyle brings to
SEE trainings, Outreach presentations and workshops her
20-year experience as a Shelton Middle School teacher/
adviser, 17-year experience as a SEE instructor and her
lifelong experience as a learning-different learner. She
is devoted to making a positive impact in the lives of
learning-different learners and the teachers who guide and
teach them.
Hema Jagada, MSc, AMS Early
Childhood, Montessori Coordinator
Hema Jagada joined Shelton Montessori
Training in 2023 and supports adult
learners in all aspects of their training.
She brings more than 14 years of
experience to the training program,
develops content, gives presentations and
instructs within the program. She is an Emerging Leaders
Fellow through the American Montessori Society and
served on the AMS Innovation Fellowship Think Tank.
Jessica Newman is the Director of Sequential English Education (SEE)
program, and Shelton Executive Director Emerita Dr. Joyce Pickering is
creator of the SEE program.
Jessica Newman, CCC-SLP, M.A, CALT, QI, Director of
Scholars and DuBard Association Method, Director of SEE
Jessica Newman is the director of the Sequential
English Education (SEE) program at Shelton,
where she oversees both the SEE and
DuBard Association Method programs and
serves as an instructor in both. She helps
coordinate language therapy services in
the Lower and Middle School, including
observing and mentoring teachers to help them
individualize their instruction.
Jessica also directs the Scholars Program, which provides
low-cost reading tutoring to students in the community. In
this role she benchmarks students, organizes groups, hires
and trains tutors and ensures the program’s effectiveness.
Her connection to the Scholars Program runs deep — she
first joined as a tutor 26 years ago while in high school.
Beyond Shelton, Jessica supports Outreach initiatives
by conducting training sessions and leading short-term
workshops in the community, and she also serves as an
adjunct professor at Dallas Baptist University.
Consuela Teague, Outreach & Training Programs
Associate and Diversity & Inclusion
Coordinator
Consuela Teague supports the planning,
implementation and evaluation of Take
Flight and MTA programs. She also
coordinates activities, manages logistics
and ensures effective communication among
participants. In addition, Consuela handles
billing, processes the Outreach storefront orders and
coordinates website updates.
Yvette Zapata, M. Ed AMS- EI,
Montessori Training Coordinator
With 15 years in the classroom, including
significant time as an Elementary I and II
guide, Yvette Zapata has honed her skills
and received her credential from the Shelton
Training program. Yvette is not only recognized
for her specialization in Early Literacy but also
holds membership in Pi Lambda Theta, the National Honor
Society of Educators at SMU.
Cynthia DeVoll, Outreach & Training
Administrative Assistant
Cynthia DeVoll is Outreach’s
Administrative Assistant and works on
special projects for the department. She
says, “I love working in an office toward a
common goal and making a positive impact
on those around me.”
