and growth.
Boots and Bling
Early Childhood Through
Second-Grade Winter Parade
Lower School hosted its fourth annual
Early Childhood through second-grade
Winter Parade, a festive tradition
that brings joy and creativity to
the community. Each class proudly
marched with a themed float imagined
by Drama Teacher Donna Gonzalez.
With the support of the specials team
— Ken Utz, Gretchen Goldstucker and
Charlotte Fisher — the parade came to
life. It was a celebration of imagination,
teamwork and holiday cheer.
Celebrations
Lower School celebrations are held
six times a year to honor every
first- through fourth-grade student.
Teachers share individualized
comments recognizing each child’s
unique gifts and the positive
impact they bring to the classroom
community. Parents are invited to
attend and celebrate with their child.
Native American Storyteller
Lower School students were
captivated by a visit from Native
American storyteller Dorayne
Breedlove. Through music and
engaging tales, she shared cultural
traditions and the importance of
honoring ancestry and community.
Her storytelling sparked curiosity and
appreciation across all Early Childhood
through fourth-grade classrooms.
Lower School families kicked up
their boots at this year’s Boots and
Bling dance. Friday night welcomed
mothers and sons, while Saturday was
reserved for fathers and daughters.
Guests enjoyed a DJ, dancing, food,
a photo booth and a festive hat bar
to complete their western look. The
Shelton Parents’ Association hosted
this special tradition that brings the
community together in style.
Third/Fourth-Grade Field Trips
This year, students enjoyed a variety
of enriching field trips that brought
learning to life beyond the classroom.
While each class visited different
destinations, third/fourth-grade
students explored the Fort Worth
Museum of Science and History,
Dallas Arboretum, Frontiers of Flight
Museum, John Bunker Sands Wetland
Center, The Dallas World Aquarium,
Pure Land Farm and Dallas Children’s
Theater to see “James and the Giant
Peach.” These experiences added
enrichment and were often tied
directly to the cultural curriculum.
Spectacular!
Early Childhood through secondgrade students lit up the stage in our
fourth annual “Spectacular” — a joyful
showcase of music and drama skills
learned in their Showtime special.
Each class performed a unique number
tailored to their personality, from
a high-energy Lower School drum
line to a clever Charlie Chaplin-style
silent movie. A huge thank-you to our
Specials team for creating, directing
and bringing this magical performance
to life. Following the show, students
celebrated their hard work with family
at a fun cast party featuring cookies
and lemonade.
Horses and Humans
As part of the Lower School wellness
program, third/fourth-grade students
participated in Horses and Humans, a
hands-on equine therapy experience
on campus. Students built confidence,
self-awareness and teamwork skills
while interacting with the horses
through guided activities. This unique
program continues to be a highlight
of the year, offering powerful lessons
through connection and care.
Third/Fourth-Grade
Specials Showcase
Mayfest
Lower School wrapped up the year
with a sunny celebration at Mayfest on
May 9. This year’s beach-themed “Fun
in the Sun” event featured bounce
houses, games and a magic show by
James Wand. The day also included
a farewell to each advisory’s adopted
senior, as students presented gift
baskets filled with well wishes for their
next adventure. Families joined in the
fun for this special half-day, topped
off with Chef Christian Moreno’s ice
cream sandwiches.
Every six weeks, third/fourth-grade
students shine during their Specials
Showcase, inviting parents to campus
to celebrate their creativity and
hard work. Families enjoy watching
students perform in short plays, share
recorder skills, present imaginative
STEM creations and display vibrant
art projects. These rotating showcases
in drama, music, art and STEM give
students the opportunity to express
themselves and build confidence in
