GRANDPARENTS’ DAY 2024
Shelton hosted Grandparents’ Day on Nov. 21 for Early
Childhood through fifth grade and on Nov. 22 for sixth
through 12th grade. Executive Director Suzanne Stell thanked
grandparents and special friends for their support, and
Student Council leaders Ford Myers and Dylan Tompkins
welcomed guests. Shelton grandparent Sabrina Polley
also spoke, and student performances made the program
especially meaningful.
On Nov. 21, senior Jack Bendalin, who has dyslexia and
attended Shelton for 10 years, shared his story. “The
challenges of dyslexia will always affect me, but knowing
that I worked through it all will stick with me even more,” he
said. Jack introduced Shelton’s Hope Squad program with
his mother to promote mental health awareness and served

in Student Council, NHS and on the baseball team. He was
accepted to the University of Kansas, University of Arizona
and University of Missouri with scholarships, and applied to
several other schools.
On Nov. 22, senior Nala LeBeauf, who has ADHD and
auditory processing difficulties, reflected on her Shelton
journey. “While shadowing a Shelton student, I saw how
encouraging teachers were, and I loved the smaller class
sizes,” she said. A Student Council representative and
member of NHS, Nala was also active in clubs and athletics,
playing basketball and running track. She is majoring in
Business Integrated Studies at the University of North Texas
with the goal of becoming a sports agent.
