SHELTON’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY
Learning Without Limits: Shelton Celebrates 50 Years
The 2025-2026 school year marks a milestone unlike any
other in Shelton’s history — the school’s 50th anniversary.
Founded in 1976 by Dr. June Shelton with 48 students in a
Dallas church, Shelton has grown into the world’s largest
independent school for intelligent students with learning
differences, serving more than 1,078 students on its North
Dallas campus.
Throughout the anniversary year, the Shelton community
is celebrating five decades of innovation, leadership and
learning without limits through a series of events, projects
and tributes honoring its journey.

A Year of Milestones and Memories
Shelton’s 50th anniversary celebration began in the
spring of 2025 with two memorable student events.
On May 5, 742 students in grades five through 11
gathered on the football field to form a massive
“50,” captured by photographer Hillsman Stuart
Jackson — a powerful visual of unity and pride.
A week later, on May 12, students helped seal Shelton’s
50th anniversary time capsule, capturing the spirit of
today’s Shelton for future generations. The capsule
— placed inside the illuminated “S” installation in the
Dining Hall — includes a Shelton uniform, a Fine Arts
playbill, a sports jersey, a drumstick, a copy of the
Shelton Literary Magazine, student letters and more.
Students Dimitri Paulos, Reid Sirna, Richard Goree,
Hudson Ramsey, Colton Abbott, Luis Salinas and Jack
Wetherington helped curate and seal the collection.
As the 2025-2026 school year began, the celebrations
expanded to include the entire Shelton community.
On Aug. 28, a kickoff reunion welcomed former
teachers, coaches and staff back to campus for a
night of trivia, storytelling and filming for Shelton’s
50th legacy video. Earlier that month, the Fine Arts
Department energized faculty at in-service with a 50th
anniversary quiz bowl and prizes, setting a festive tone
for the year ahead.
In September, Shelton hosted one of its most
meaningful community service efforts to date — the
Feed My Starving Children MobilePack. More than
5,000 volunteers — students, parents, alumni, staff and
community members — packed 2,969 boxes totaling
641,304 meals, later shipped to Guyana, El Salvador
and Zambia. The event drew local media attention,
including coverage by Fox 4’s Clarice Tinsley.
