Homecoming Week, held Sept. 22–27, 2025, brought the
celebration to new heights. During half-time of the Sept.
26 varsity football game, a drone show illuminated the sky
with Shelton’s 50th logo, revealed Little Big Town as the
Stampede 2026 headliner and announced that Shelton
Varsity Football would face Covenant at The Star in Frisco on
Nov. 8. The event was made possible through the generous
support and coordination of the Shelton Parents’ Association,
with special thanks to the Gene and Jerry Jones family for
making the game at The Star possible.

Shelton in the Spotlight
Shelton’s 50th anniversary has
also been recognized across the
region. A feature story in
D Magazine highlighted the
school’s pioneering role in
education for students with
learning differences, while a Dallas
Morning News 140th anniversary
special section carried Shelton’s
commemorative ad. New fence
banners on campus — along with
pole banners on Hillcrest and
on Frankford east of the Tollway
— and a refreshed timeline wall
display mark the 50th visually for
all who visit.
In October, Shelton partnered with the Dallas branch of the
International Dyslexia Association, led by Shelton parent and
board president Dahlem Dodson, to host a film screening
of “Hopeville,” followed by a panel discussion on America’s
literacy crisis and evidence-based reading instruction — one
of many ways Shelton continues to advance its mission
through advocacy and outreach.
The Shelton Parents’ Association
released limited-edition
anniversary merchandise,
including T-shirts, mugs, totes
and ornaments. Weekly “Fun
Facts” and “Share Your Shelton
Memories” features run in Shelton’s ePost, Staff Stuff and
social media channels, encouraging the community to share
stories and photos on the interactive 50th Anniversary
Memory Wall at shelton.org/50th-anniversary.
Continuing the Celebration
The celebration continues throughout 2025-2026,
culminating with Shelton Stampede 2026 on April 11 at the
Fairmont Dallas, headlined by Little Big Town — a night
honoring Shelton’s legacy and the people who made it
possible.
Earlier in the 2025-2026 school year, highlights included a
luncheon on Oct. 24 honoring former SPA presidents and
Stampede auction chairs, and the varsity football game at
The Star on Nov. 8. The premiere of the 50th legacy video
and a special guest speaker visit in April will round out
Shelton’s milestone year.
As Shelton celebrates half a century of empowering
students to reach their full potential, the message is clear:
Learning differences are not limitations — they are pathways
to success. Through 50 years of dedication, innovation
and community, Shelton continues to shape the future of
education — one student at a time.
