Nora Twomey, Shelton Class of 2025
Started at Shelton: In ninth grade
for student council has shown how deeply he cares for his
students and the school.
Clubs and sports: Varsity Cheer, Varsity
Soccer, Ambassadors, Girl Talk, National
Honor Society and Hope Squad
How has Shelton impacted your life?
Shelton allowed me to succeed more than I ever thought
possible. Its advanced methods of teaching kids with
learning differences expanded my knowledge and gave me
the self-confidence to achieve things I once thought were
out of reach. My academic achievements, athletic honors,
creativity in the arts and success in student government
would not have been possible without Shelton’s support.
Learning differences: Dyslexia and
dysgraphia
What was your favorite experience at Shelton?
My favorite experience has been Friday football game
days when I got to cheer. A lasting memory is my time
with Cheer and Chargerettes, when we visited and
performed at Disneyland.
What was your favorite class?
I have always enjoyed English and History, especially world
history with Mrs. Lubbers during my sophomore year and
Dual Credit English with Mrs. Whitfield during my senior
year.
How has Shelton impacted your life?
I’ve learned to be proud of and advocate for my learning
differences, which has benefited me in my classwork and
school environment.
Would you recommend Shelton?
I will always recommend Shelton for its supportive
environment, beneficial resources and meaningful
experiences. I gained all of these while a student at Shelton.
What are your college and career aspirations?
I attend Wake Forest University in North Carolina, where I
major in Environmental Studies. I hope to obtain a strong
education and then begin work in the fields of sustainability
and environmental policy.

Who was your favorite teacher?
Mr. Mallick was an outstanding mentor and role model. His
English class not only helped me grow as a writer but also
advanced my critical thinking and analytic skills. His support
as a sponsor for the debate club and as a co-adviser

What was your favorite experience at
Shelton?
My favorite experience is going to
Independent Schools Association of the
Southwest (ISAS) Arts Festival because
I love seeing how incredible our school’s art is.
How has Shelton impacted your life?
I’ve been a part of Shelton for my whole life and it has
helped me overcome challenges.
What was your favorite experience at Shelton?
One of the most impactful experiences was my second
year at the Independent Schools Association of the
Southwest (ISAS) Arts Festival. During Shelton’s coffee
house performance, especially watching my friend Charlie
Raynaud, I realized the sheer talent our school has to offer.
The love and support at that performance inspired me to
host multiple coffee houses this year, start the debate club
and create the Shelton Spirit Club so that our students’
talent and hard work are always recognized.

What are your college and career aspirations?
I major in Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
Being student body president has sparked my interest
in entrepreneurship, and I love the idea of managing and
funding projects, events and businesses that inspire me.
Who was your favorite teacher?
Mr. Duesing and his film class because he inspired and
supported all of my film projects.
Learning differences: ADHD, mild
dyslexia and a processing disorder

Would you recommend Shelton?
Yes. Shelton teaches the same material as any other school
in Texas but specializes in adapting the curriculum to the
way you learn best. Building confidence in your academic
abilities early is essential to developing self-belief when
facing adversity. That’s what Shelton does better than any
other school.

What advice do you have for incoming students?
Go out of your way to socialize with your peers and make
lifelong friendships.
What are your college plans?
I attend Chapman University to study Film.
