Course Descriptions
Intensive Language Therapy:
Alphabetic Phonics (AP) or Sequential English Education (SEE)
Grades 5 – 8
Note: This one-hour class is only for new students or current students new to AP or SEE.
This class is a multisensory, structured, sequential presentation to develop, review, and strengthen basic reading and
spelling skills. Approval by the administrative staff is required.
LEGO® Mechanics Mania
Grades 5 – 6
Using the BricQ Motion Prime kit, students will work together designing mechanisms that create a swinging gymnast on
a pendulum, send a skier down the slope, strike one ball against another to score like a game of pool, and shoot a soccer
ball into the goal.
Math Foundations
Grades 5 – 8
This class will review and drill the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers,
fractions, decimals, and integers. Each concept will be introduced through the use of multisensory materials. Other
concepts will be taught that are appropriate for the level of the students in the class.
Micro-Photography
Grades 5 – 8
This course explores the fascinating world of micro-photography, teaching students how microscopes work and guiding
them through daily photographic themes, such as fingerprinting, bacteria, insects, and different types of cells. Students
will capture microscopic images each day, submitting their best shot for inclusion in a class portfolio. By the end,
students will gain technical skills in microscopes and photography, as well as a deeper understanding of the microscopic
world around us.
Money Matters
Grades 7 – 8
It’s never too late or too early for students to understand the importance of financial concepts. Students will learn how
to handle money matters such as setting financial goals, saving, budgeting, tracking expenses, good credit, avoiding
debt and investing. It’s the first step to raising financially savvy students!
Musical Theatre Junior Production (3-hour class)
Grades 5 – 8
If your student dreams of being in the spotlight, here’s their chance! Join us for a junior musical production where
students will have the opportunity to act, sing and dance. In this three-hour class, students will have a broad
experience in musical theatre including, auditioning, vocal technique, developing character, and performing as a group.
Opportunities are available for all levels of experience. Class includes a performance for friends and family on the final
day. All participants are required to attend class on June 27th. This year the class will be performing Newsies Jr!
Oral Language and Vocabulary Development
Grades 5 – 8
This course enhances receptive and expressive language skills through activities including defining vocabulary, word
associations, categorizations and rapid word recall. Expressive oral language skills are strengthened through activities
emphasizing thought organization for more effective communication.
