Course Descriptions
Language Lab
Grades 5-8
In this engaging language class, students strengthen their reading, writing, and thinking skills by exploring
how words work. The course focuses on building a powerful vocabulary through the study of Greek and
Latin roots, helping students unlock the meanings of unfamiliar words across subjects. Students also
develop a strong foundation in grammar, learning how sentences are structured and how to communicate
clearly and effectively. Through interactive lessons, word analysis, games, and writing practice, students
gain confidence using language accurately and creatively—skills that support success in all areas of
learning.
LEGO® Mechanics Mania
Grades 5-6
Using the BricQ Motion Prime kit, students will work together designing mechanisms that create a
swinging gymnast on a pendulum, send a skier down the slope, strike one ball against another to score like
a game of pool, and shoot a soccer ball into the goal.
Math Concepts and Applications
Grades 5-8
This class will review and drill the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole
numbers, fractions, decimals, and integers. Each concept will be introduced through the use of
multisensory materials. Other concepts will be taught that are appropriate for the level of the students in
the class.
Micro-Photography
Grades 5-8
This course explores the fascinating world of micro-photography, teaching students how microscopes
work and guiding them through daily photographic themes, such as fingerprinting, bacteria, insects, and
different types of cells. Students will capture microscopic images each day, submitting their best shot for
inclusion in a class portfolio. By the end, students will gain technical skills in microscopes and photography,
as well as a deeper understanding of the microscopic world around us.
