HUMANITIES I
This one-semester course is an interdisciplinary
survey of cultures focusing on the philosophical and
aesthetic factors (art, music, etc.) in human values
with an emphasis on the historical development
of the individual and society, the need to create,
and the aesthetic and intellectual works through
which cultures express their values and aspirations.
This course focuses on the major periods of
history including the Ancient World, Middle Ages,
Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, and Modern/
Postmodern periods.

HUMANITIES II
This one-semester course is an interdisciplinary survey
of cultures focusing on the historical development
of society and the need to create, as well as the
aesthetic and intellectual works through which
cultures express their values and aspirations. Students
learn by analyzing a mixture of primary and secondary
sources, lectures, and hands-on experiences creating
their own versions of historical crafts. This course
focuses on the major periods of history from the
1500s to present, with topics of study including music
history, fashion history, photography in the 19th and
20th centuries, architecture, and historical destruction
and preservation. Students are not required to take
Humanities I in order to take Humanities II.
