FORENSIC SCIENCE
Forensic Science allows students to explore and apply concepts learned in
Biology and Chemistry. Students become part of a crime scene investigation
team to solve crimes ranging from theft and fraud to homicide. Students learn
how to collect, process, and analyze data using the scientific method. Lab
exercises include fingerprinting, handwriting analysis, ballistics, blood typing,
hair and fiber examination, and DNA analysis. Case studies and current events
are explored.

NEUROSCIENCE STUDIES
The Neuroscience Studies course covers topics related to brain development
and function, including diseases, research for understanding scientific methods
and current results and treatments, beginning with a single neuron and synaptic
connections to development and degeneration. The course will review science
disciplines such as the basics of biology, physics, and chemistry.

URBAN HOMESTEADING
In this elective class, students will learn the foundational elements of urban
homesteading, including, but not limited to, gardening, domestic and farm
animal raising and care, water management and conservation, composting, and
more. The class will combine classroom instruction with practical, hands-on,
outdoor experiential learning. Specifically, the class will have a more intensive
focus on current Shelton-specific outdoor projects, such as beekeeping,
chicken keeping, and fruit and vegetable gardening.
