CERAMICS
STUDIO ART HONORS
This class allows students to focus on the medium of
clay and explore its possibilities. Class includes both
handbuilding (pinch, slab, coil) and potter’s wheel
throwing, as well as glazing techniques. Time is spent
learning proper safety and studio maintenance, and
students assist with tasks such as wedging clay,
loading and unloading the kiln, etc. Student work is
displayed at school, and students participate in our
annual Gallery Reception.

Prerequisite: Art I
This course is for serious visual art students who are
self-driven and seek a greater challenge in the visual
arts. The course focuses on continued 2D and 3D
media exposure, skill development, idea generation,
and includes opportunities for independent study
in media of particular personal interest. Students
are expected to work outside of class regularly. A
sketchbook is utilized for weekly drawing exercises
and project planning/conception. Students also build
a portfolio of work that can be used for college/art
program admissions. Field trips, including the ISAS
Fine Arts Festival, are used to reinforce learning
whenever possible. Students are encouraged to enter
art competitions when appropriate opportunities
exist. Student work will be displayed at school,
and students will participate in our annual Gallery
Reception.

STUDIO ART
This is a project-based course for students who wish
to continue exploring the visual arts. The majority of
work is done in class, with practice activities leading
up to major projects. A variety of 2D (drawing,
painting, etc) and 3D (sculpture, ceramics) media are
explored. The therapeutic benefits of art creation are
also a focus. Student work will be displayed at school,
and students may participate in our annual Gallery
Reception.
